just cleaning some small handbrake bits to paint 2k silver, some seem very rust free and silver there are, i assume this is just becuase they were always greasy, is any of these bits stainless?, i dont want to paint any stainless peices.

Try those bits with a magnet - if they dont stick strongly, they are some grade of stainless

These parts would not be stainless.Stainless steel is very easy to identify.These parts were normally just painted and did get a lot of grease on them so it's possible that's why they are in good nick.The magnet trick should work though but doesn't work on all grades of stainless.
