Thunderball FX. Just posted by Leo on ozrodders forum.
Bill Tait's Merlin V12 powered car.....and yes, that is the driver sitting in the back.

Late 60's at Riverside Drag Strip.
And you thought Hadfield was an innovator!

Alex
I thought an aircraft cockpit was a little small, hope the driver was not short sighted.

2000 Hp, I wander if he ever got to open the throttle right up and feel the power.

Madness you would not be allowed to put it on the track these day.

Cheers Jim

Shite, what a monster Shocked

Still its pleasing to see some proper engineering, like the early Ford(?) front axle upgrade.

Imagine the noise Cool

I guess it was more of a burnout car than a drag car, 2000hp through those tyres?  Shocked

By all accounts, from a standing start, it would just smoke the tyres. It did do some rolling start passes down the track, but naturally these could not be timed.
