Compliance Plate help please

Hi All,

About to undertake some paint work on my FC and want to check first to see if the existing colours are original. I checked out the technical section but the numbers I have don't seem to be there. Here's the whole plate detail:

FC      225     77239M
Trim    277     629
Pain    253     7700
RPO    256      7770

The exterior 2 tone red/white. The red is a kind of deep red almost maroon, and the interior is red/black

Happy to help.  Code 277 is "India Ivory over Granite Grey", otherwise known as grey with a white flash.  The paint colours you list correspond with this code (7700 and 7770).  So it doesn't sound like the red is original.

Interior code 629 is a "Riff Red and Black" interior to suit an FC Special Sedan, which is hardly surprising, since that's typical for a grey coloured car.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, I guess

Tony,  this may sound like a silly thing to say but here goes anyway.  And owners of grey or grey and white cars please do not get upset.

Do you really want to paint your car grey and white.
These colours are probably the plainest colours the FC was available in and are not highly desirable (however some people do like/love them) Also most red and white cars are not really red and white cars - but red and white is very desireable.

The truth is that very few people know or even care that a car is not painted in its original colours so long as the colours that it is painted in are original colours (assuming you are building a stock car)

Here is the truth about my grand champion FC sedan from last year.
Originally a single tone green special sedan (mid model) with a black dealer stripe down the side from new.
As with all single colour green cars - the interior was painted in dark green.

When I bought the car as an unfinished project I added the two tone paint scheme and changed the black stripe to dark green to match the interior.  I also changed it to a 3rd model sedan.

I think it looked much better this way and in my opinion it helped me to win the grand champion trophy.

This has never been a secret and I told this to anybody who cared to ask about the cars colours.

You will find that there was also another stock class car at the nats which one first place in its class which also was not painted in its original colours.

What's the point of building a car in colours you dont like just because the ID plate says thats what it originally was.  Or if you dont like this idea, why not consider changing the ID plate for one that has colours you like. (I have dozens to choose from)

I'm not saying dont paint your car grey and white, just dont paint it that way and then regret it later.

Well said Ken, as an owner of an originally Grey & White car, I agonized for months over wether or not to return the car to original colors.
I am building the car as a stocker, but couldn`t bring myself to spend money on a re-spray that was always going to look plain.
(sorry to the lovers of Granite Grey).
In the end I kept the India Ivory but used a variation of the maroon, and I must say that every time I walk into the shed and see the car it brings a smile to my face and a fuzzy feeling in my tummy. (Something Granit Grey couldn`t do for me).
