I have been told by a few different people the older heads are not effected by using unleaded???. Anyone got any knowledge or tech info to support or bust the myth?
I'm about to get my superflow head rebuilt, and I suppose I should just pay for the inserts while I'm at it, but I thought I'd put the question out and see what the story is.

in the short term your exhaust valve seats wont suffer, however over the longer term, you will potentially suffer valve seat recession.

the combustion product of the lead in the petrol coats the valve seat and protects it.

I ran LPG on a std head for 20,000 kms with no ill effect.. of course the rest of the car fell apart.. if the car's a keeper, spend on the inserts.

Cheers

Thanks Ed,
pretty much what I had been thinking, thought it was worth asking though.
