This usually occurs if the wheel studs have worn the holes in your rim out slightly from being left loose at one stage or general wear. The more your wheel comes loose the more wear will be occurring and the problem only gets worse. It usually means get a new wheel or put a new centre in it I'm afraid. Have a look at the holes and see if they have enlarged at all, this may be the problem.

Hi Mini,

Check the angle on your nuts.

Cheers

The same problem occurs on caravan wheels ie the "white spokers".  You have to clean all the paint away from  the area where the wheel nut contacts the rim.  This cures the problem.

What maco means is that there are 3 types of wheel nut with 7/16 thread, FX which is a bigger nut altogether and not the point of this discussion, but the FJ to HR nut are all the same taper angle and HK to WB nuts use a different taper angle. If you use the later nuts on early wheels then the taper does not match with the taper in the wheel and the nuts can come loose and / or damage the wheel as well.
I'm not 100% sure on the changeover model, maybe HK to HG are the same as early cars, maybe someone else can add further info.

Hi Guys.

Ken, the correct changeover model is HT. So HK still use the FJ nuts and the new HT ones carry thru to WB and all Toranas (except HB to TA 4-cyl).
