I've traced through the wires, fuses, and got to the voltage regulator.

unplugged it placed it back in and electrics came back.

Went to start the car and all went dead.  removed the clips from regulator re55 bosch and the electics came back.

any Ideas.

Sounds like regulator is certainly dead, I would try replacing it rather than fixing it.

Thanks Ken,

Had a couple from my club come around.  We found some wiring which had been soldered, and as a result the main wire was rather thick, and the solder did not grip the main wire rather then formed a ring around it. We believe the corosion between the wire and the solder formed a barrier which stopped the circuit.

Cleaned it all up and away she goes. I know have a spare regulator.  All I say is when you solder ensure that you get the main wire hot enought to get solder into it
