Hi Guys,
I have three FC's and have a query about stainless trims. One car (the one I took to Phillip Island) has a short trim between the back door and rear window, mounted vertical across the pillar. The second car which I bought last week has a full trim from rear door to rear door, mounted on the flat and runs the same line as the rear glass trim with approx a 5 mill gap between them. The third car which I have stripped down to begin a rebuild has no trim in that area at all.
Was there any standard with trims or were they at the selection of the buyer at the time? :-/

regards

Weddo afaik the 58 had no trim between the rear door and rear window .The early 59 had a small trim between the rear door and rear window and the late 59 had the trim going from the top of taillights to the rear door,Cheers Greg.       Try this link i think   its what you are after.   http://www.fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/fcpaintstyles.html

Thanks heaps Greg,
That would tally with the build dates of each vehicle.

The trim running from door to door just below the rear window is on FE special sedans also. It is a continuation of the "belt-line" stainless on the doors.

Actually, that trim (around the back window) is only for FEs.  FCs had:

Launch: no trim at C pillar
Mid 59: 3/4" stainless trim on C pillar, separating roof colour from insert and boot.
Late 59: fin extension to door edge on C pillar, separating insert from roof and boot.

cheers

Hi Ret, do you think the door to door trim may have been added later?

Yes the trim would have been added later.  As far as I can understand from your description it is an FE special trim (2 piece) and comes down to the rear doors. On an FE special this trim continues along the rear door then onto the front door and around the base of the front screen to create a flowing effect.  On your car it would not continue onto the rear doors.  Is this correct?

here is one of a rather good looking one colour FC special with FE special stripe around the rear screen and "Styletone" trim kit.  There is an ornamental jewel on the front door.  Very original car - maybe done by dealership or perhaps second hand car yard when the car was not very old.

Yes Ken,
The trim is exactly the same as the one on the FC posted, so it would be a later addition. That is a unique styletone trim, I have not seen one of those before.
