I am aware of a conversion to a banjo drum diff, by removing the drum assembly,then using a adaptor plate
to allow the fitting of discs.( disc calliper used was a skyline unit).

The bracket only required a small weld to the diff housing.

A article was posted on the Cruizin website with full
instalation detials, but when the forum closed without notice, I lost the details.

I do remember that the brackets were available from a Victorian company" Harcourt wreckers" in Barkers creek(?). I contacted them and they no longer make the bracket.

(He was not very helpfull ,and appeared to not be interested, he did confirm, that they had been sold through them in the recent past, but did not intend making any more)

Does anyone know any more?

There is another option... run discs on the banjo. Theres a guy in the QLD HD/HR Club that has a kit (dunno if its 'approved' or not, but I do have some pics of his setup) that bolts R31/R32 Pintara caliphers straight up. Once again thou I'm not sure what rims you have to run.

The laser cut caliper brackets are avail from Harcourt Motor Wreckers, near Castlemaine Vic for around $15 each. The pintara calipers are around $30each with h/brake cables (used) from the wreckers and they look a bit like the VN-V8/VLturbo front calipers with the finned bits on the top), and you use standard commodore rear discs at around $35ea brand new. You simply remove the hold-on rear drum assy, cut the centre out of the backing plate and put it back onto the housing as a spacer for the wheel bearing and slip the axle back in and tighten it up. Have the commodore discs drilled to the stud pattern of choice, slip the disc on (using longer studs of course) clamp the caliper with the mounting bracket attached and weld it to the diff housing. The pintara caliper has the handbrake built-in. Adapt the nissan h/brake cable to the original holden assy and its done.
Total conversion cost around $200.

a engineer at work has told me about this.... i have the skill to do all the work ie: i have a laser cutter at work i own a mig and arc welder and 4,5,9 inch grinders but i am not 100% sure about it....
are you going to have a shot at doing this?
wouldnt mind having a shot myself i am eager to put discs all round on my hr but i aint paying 2000 for just the rear.

why dont you buy a volvo diff from a 244 pre 1986 for $180 from the wreckers....same width same stud pattern and comes with DISCS.

if i was to put this volvo diff in a hr prem what would i have to change? the mounts? what about the handbrake?

This conversion should come in about the same price
$ 200 ish, and there are a lot more options in diff ratio's
available.

I have e mailed someone who was selling the brackets
several years ago from q'land and am awaiting a reply

converting the banjo, the biggest drawback to the volvo diff, is limited ratio,s.

yeh i;d be intersested to know what mods are involved in putting the volvo diff in and also how do u go with the handbrake cable does the original one fit or the volvo item

Steve Ive just put disc brakes on my HR diff. I used pintara calipers ,discs & backing plate.for more info give   me a  email

To clarify, the details are actually a group of drawings with measurements.
It seems there are a lot of interested people (385 views) maybe an upload to a photobucket account would be a good idea.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I didn't see a reason to start a new one on the same topic. I would love to hear more about the Volvo conversion as I've heard of people doing it for EH's as well.
Is the track width the same and what are some of the available ratios?

the Volvo disc brake rear is about two inches shorter giving more room for deep dish rims,you have to cut off the volvo mounting plates,and weld in the Holden HR spring brakets, Grin
