I've got an very old looking antenna on my FC ute (I suspect the front guards are actually off an FE, because of the home-made indicator holes).  The hole for the antenna on the passenger side looks like a quality job, but if it's not original, I'll ask my panel beater to cover it since it's now in the shop for the big-beating.  Anyone know way too much about radio antennas in 1959?
PS I don't really want a radio but I'll leave the antenna if it's original.

Yep - I know way too much about FC radio aerials  Roll Eyes

Original aerial should be very tall (about 5 feet) and be in 5 parts.  So sits above the guard by about a foot.  The other distinctive feature is a very big base in 3 parts - the bottom piece being about 3 inches in diameter.  Maybe still has a blue plastic tip on top.
Lead should screw into the bottom of the aerial.

On that basis, I think mine is old but not original.  The diameter of the base isn't nearly that big, but I suppose the question I really wanted to ask, since I don't really want a radio, is "did all 59s come with a hole in the front guard or can I ask my panel beater to cover it over?"
Thanks again in anticipation!

I can answer that.  The hole in the guard (or sometimes in the panel between bonnet and windscreen) was always an aftermarket or dealer modification.  From the factory no FE or FC had a radio or an aerial.

So if you're not planning on having a radio, get the panel beater on the job to get rid of the hole!
