I often see airless spray guns advertised.  Are they any good? I'm not looking at full body spray - just the odd bits & pieces (e.g. spats, sunvisor etc.)

I don't really have the space or the need to go all out for a compressor and air tools.

What are your experiences with them?
What works, what doesn't?
Suggestions on brand/price will be helpfull.

Anybody's help will be appreciated.

Hi Martin,
I would be surprised if anyone much recommends using an airless spray system for painting a car, but you can get a good finish on smaller articles (such as you suggest) with a bit of practice and patience.

I have a Wagner W650, and I think Wagner is a pretty good brand.  I've only used it for painting timber- palings, shed walls etc.

Like all paint gear, you need to ensure it is cleaned properly when finished.

Have a look at the Wagner website ftp://http://www.wagner-group.de/portal/color_spraying_paint_en_wag,851,365.html here for a few ideas.  From memory, my gun cost about $200 at Home Hardware.

I also have a Wagner and paint heaps of things with it.  I have painted the engine with engine enamel as well as all the hang ons in black and even the engine bay of a few cars.
Very cheap and easy painting but MUST be cleaned thoroughly after EVERY use.

I have an Airless sprayer at work cost NZD $1600  much much easier and better to use than a dirty old spraygun, and it users less paint just set it and spray Grin
I paint Trucks and Buses no problem!

1600 is a bloody lot of woolly dollars.   Cheesy    Possibly a bit of overkill for what I would need.
