Hi All,

After being shonked late last year when I thought I had bought a 48,000 mile EH 179 manual Angry I purchased this one today.

Its a very early build 149 Manual with 24,900 miles. It was allegedly a special order car GMH display car, as it has nearly every accessory you can imagine. (the skirts aren't genuine though). It also has all its books.

I'm off to Victoria tomorrow to see it, verify condition and (hopefully drive it back to Sydney). Sorry about the photos, they're not mine.

Cheers

Dear John,

You need to take up golf.

Best Regards,

Craig.

PS. Take more of the red pills, and less of the blue ones.  Grin

Be careful Brett, he'll count the Italian stuff he owns.

John, only count the good stuff - OK?

Cool

Looks pretty snazy John, if you decide to take it I'll relieve you of those Fiesta wheel trims.  Wink

Postscript.

What a debacle Angry

Flew self and mate to Melbourne, travelled to Yea to see a car that had done at least 124,000 miles and probably 224,000. More hits than I've had hot breakfasts, various rust repairs at least three different colours etc., etc.,

The bloke was 71, supposed to have owned it for over 15 years, bought it from a deceased estate, all books. I asked him three times if the mileage was accurate, he assured me it was, asked him if the paint was original - again yes.

Couldn't send me photos, didn't have a digital camera, would have to get friend to take some - he was away for a couple of days. Is it up to being driven to Sydney? -of course, and so on....

Got my deposit back, but boy do I feel stupid. In all my years of flogging round old cars I've never fallen for crap like this before. The bizaar thing is I don't think the bloke was lying, I don't think he knew.

At least I didn't buy the thing sight unseen.... Roll Eyes

John

As Kathy says, they are still out there.  This just wasn't one of them.  Sounds like you did the right thing leaving it behind.

Oh well, at least it's a story to tell the grand-kids one day Grin

cheers

Better luck next time.....

Reverse of trip down, it made my wife's day that I'd been such a goose - it's not good to provide them with this sort of ammunition.....

bit of a pity John, looked like a real treat from the pics, but pics can be deceiving.  Anyhow, the fun is chasing them and im sure you will have fun until you do find a nice low mileage one!!  Good luck, EH holdens are definately one of the finest GMH built,
