G'day All,
After searching around I have been able to obtain an FC wagon in restorable condition in India Ivory and Corsair Tan.  The wagon has the following details on the ID plate

ID:     FC-229-30008-A
TRIM:   314-855
PAINT:  256-7770
        253-7699

My question is: when was the car made???
Where is the chassis number on the subframe???
Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
AD055

PS See you on Sunday at Burwood!!!

Hi.
Welcome to the wagon fold! Man, you gotta post some pictures.
The Chassis number on the wagon, should be on the drivers side, on the flat area, just baack from where the light wiring terminal thingo is (Does that make sense?). You will also need the engine number. It is on a flat area, just in front of where the dizzy sticks into the motor!
All you need to do, is have a look at the ID Plate decoder, just one benifit of this wonderful site. Click on this link & the rest is self explanatory.

4Hammers,
Thanks for the prompt reply.
We found the ID plate decoder, but couldn't complete it without the Chassis number.

The chassis number looks like FC64315M
The engine number is L297623 (FJ number I  think)

I'll try the decoder again now.
I will get Jake my son to take some pics and post them in the next few days.

Hooroo,
Alan and Jake

ad055,

That certainly looks like a valid chassis number, and if it's the original one for  the car, it is a fairly late 1959 model.  It was the 63,315th FC assembled in Melbourne, and the 30,008th Special Station Sedan manufactured in Adelaide.

That engine number is from a very early FE Sedan.  Mine was manufactured in September 1956, and its engine number is L299940.  Engines from FJ Utes and Vans that came down the line with the early FE sedans had "U" prefixes.

Hope that helps.

cheers

Hey guys,
Thanks for all the help.
Just not sure about the engine??  Hmmm, may have had a replacement at some stage// What do you think??

We are really looking forward to getting stuck into restoring our FC wagon.  Are there any other wagons on the forum with the same colour scheme ie. India Ivory and Corsair Tan.

I'd say it had a reco engine at some point in its life, simple as that.  A flying poo-wagon, eh?  There are a few sedans in those colours, can't think of any wagons OTTOMH.  How about some pix?

By the way, in your previous reference to Burwood, if that's Burwood NSW then the show has been and gone, I'm afraid.  Next club meeting is on May 10, next run is to Berrima on May 15 (see events board for the details, all are welcome with or without FE/FC if you want to come and have a look.  Same goes for the club meeting.)

cheers

Good to talk to you at the state titles
I have dated your car as between the 20th and 24th of Dec
1959.  It is the second highest wagon body number on record.

My highest record is FC-229-30146A  which is Dec 29 1959

G'day Ken,
Is there anyway of finding out who registered our wagon first back in 1959? If not do you know of anyone who could?

Thanks for the help,
Alan and Jake

No - privacy act does not permit this info to be let out, in fact records predating computers have now been destroyed I believe
