I was wondering what were the original master cylinders
for FE/FC, as i have a cast alloy clutch cylinder with a cast steel brake cylinder. I have seen this the other way
around and assume they are changed or swapped with
later model cylinders due to being repaired or refurbished over the years. My FC is a late 59 but i am of the belief both cylinders should be cast steel. Is this correct?

The original master cylinders on a FEFC were a tin cylinder not unlike a tin oil or small jam tin they were pretty crude but do look the part if you are keen on a authentic looking car.
Keep in mind they are quite hard to pickup and if you do find them they will invariably need repair and recoating and resealing as they will more than likely have rusted in the base. The tins sit on the brake and clutch piston set up and remember that the plastic ones will fit on to a totally different holder than the Tins so you will need to scource 2 tins and 2 matching pistons that fit on to the firewall. Good luck they are worth the effort if you can find them!! Both my stockies have them fitted and i have had no problems.

The original brake and clutch cylinders were cast alloy with a Tin reservoir. Wink
