Danny,

There are two things going for a 149 that make it saleable:

1.  You can install a 149 without requiring engineer's report, HR front end etc, so they're popular with people who don't want to go that route, but want a bit more power, or who have been frightened by the cost of a reco grey :-/

2.  The EH sump and pickup are necessary for the red conversion.  Even if the rest of the motor is cactus, they're worth keeping.

I wouldn't say you're sitting on a gold-mine or anything, but they're certainly not worthless, to answer your question.

cheers

My car has a standard bore 149 with a 20/60 camshaft, and did not need an engineers certificate in NSW when presented for a blue slip about 3 years ago.

The car goes slightly better than my grey powered wagon, it ain't no rocketship, but it ain't no breathless grey either  Grin Front end, brakes, gearbox, is all stock FC, diff centre is 3.36.

Cheers,

Craig.

You don't need an eng/rep for a HR front end or for a 149, or both.  If you go to the RTA website and do a search for "Light Vehicle Modifications" you'll find a PDF document that explains the rules.

Basically, you need an eng/rep if you increase capacity by more than 10%, or make structural modifications - ie cutting the floor and subframe for gearbox changes.

cheers
