I've got a set of Tasman's in for a refurb at the moment, the guy there seemed fairly confident that he could help me out with some non-original caps. He was going to look for something off the shelf, failing that they can CNC machine them. I'll let you know if he comes up with anything decent.

If I could get hold of just one or three (even to borrow for a mould) I would look at getting them reproduced in cast alloy. The originals would seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo though.

If it is likely that any are going to be made, I could use 6.

Does anyone know how much a set of tasmans would be worth in fair condition?

And also ive been told that they are illegal in vic know with the new regs because of the alan key bolts holding the centres in, is there any way to get around this?

Cheers, Matt

There was a mag place (Melb or Syd) advertising in the Parts Peddler and had a set of Tasmans advertised. Not sure if they still have any though.

Tasmans have metal tabs cast into the alloy that is then welded to the steel rim, I have only seen Dragway "Splatts" using allen headed bolts to attach the rim to the centre.

Hey Stinky.
I have one I could lend to you if you want to make a mould from it. I would be interested in seeing these reproduced. Let me know when and where.
(and before everyone asks, I only have one and i'm keeping it)
Regards
Alex

Cripes! it's been a while, Alex's cap is now in the hands of a machine shop that can confidently make the caps for $30-35 each. They will be a duplicate apart from the centre where the map of Australia and the tasman lettering is. If people are interested, let me know, deposits will be required.

Once my set is complete, I will pursue the possibility of getting sets cast in alloy and this should hopefully make them a lot cheaper.

Of course they will get polished by my good self.

Finally for the centre that will be machined flat, I will be going to a Badge Maker/Merchandise Shop to get reproductions of the centres done as a 3D sticker.

Alex, thank you for your patience, I will have the cap back to you soon.
