I am a little surprised at the fuel economy of my FC.

I think its quite bad at 53lt for 130miles.
I`m not sure of the conversion to Mile per Gallon but I thought it should be better than that.

It is a standard car with a standard grey motor. I didnt drive it real hard, but most of those 130 Mi were around town. I am yet to do any real highway cruising so it may get better.

The motor runs sweet, doesnt blow smoke, any suggestions on how to improve this? It has been recently timed and tuned by a mechanic.

Maybe this is normal?
Any suggestions?

Brendan.

Brendan that works out to just over 11 miles to the gallon which is pretty bad economy for a grey motor. A well tuned grey driven sensibly around town should do at least 20 mpg if not more. Assuming that the motor is correctly tuned and the carby set up is correct, I would suggest you check for dragging brakes, a fuel leak in one of the lines or the tank.
Cheers

Thanks Jockster,

I am confident there are no leaks and the brakes do not drag so I`ll see the mechanic again to check the tuning and timing.

Brendan,   I agree that your mileage is abnormally bad, and there is something wrong somewhere.
Clutch is not slipping is it.
It's a bit of a mystery since all the normal symtoms such as brake drag, engine tune etc seem to be OK.

Brendan
Just another thought, check your oil level to see if its increasing or being diluted, I once had a grey rupture the  diaphram in the fuel pump, which still worked ok but pumped fuel into the sump. In the early stages i didn't notice anything except a slight fuel smell in the engine bay and I guess the fuel evaporated out through the breather, but when it got worse I experienced an interesting backfire which blew out the rocker cover and sideplate (not to mention scaring the s**t out of me).
Cheers
