It seems every time I go to undo the bonnet it has jammed again . Took hours the last time. Thought I had it solved, alas it has happened again today. Just as I have the engineer planned for next week. What are the alternatives. Those that know my car will understand I don't mind modernising a bit.

Have looked at these as an option. http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index.php?PCID=10498&PSO=245&PSID=3100041257&PSV=Primary&CDO=

Not sure how these might look http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BLACK-RACING-Motor-Flush-Mount-Hood-Bonnet-Pin-Lock-Kit-KEY-LOCKING-UNIVERSAL/150935726270?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140106155344%26meid%3D8599364915497174722%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D20140106155344%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D150935727594&rt=nc

What have other people done?

Thanks in advance.

Wayne,

It would be a good idea to have a chat with the engineer before fitting bonnet pins, especially if he is running to NCOP. SECTION LH BODY AND CHASSIS gives the following guidance:

4.2 BONNET PINS AND MASCOTS
4.2.1 General
For vehicles manufactured prior to 1 July 1988 there are no specific requirements for items such as bonnet pins and mascots. However fixtures that increase the risk of injury to other motorists or pedestrians are deemed to be dangerous protrusions and must not be used.
For vehicles manufactured on or after 1 July 1988, ADR 42/-- specifically prohibits external or internal protrusions that are not technically essential and are likely to increase the risk of bodily injury to any person.
4.2.2 Bonnet Pins
Bonnet pins that protrude through the bonnet must not be used. Bonnet securing devices that are flush with the contours of the bonnet may be used.
4.2.3 Mascots
Original equipment mascots fitted by the vehicle manufacturer for a particular make and model of vehicle or mascots that do not protrude outside the contours of the vehicle body, may be used.

I read it that bonnet pins are OK for a humpy (pre-1st July 1988) and that 4.2.2 and 4.2.3 don't apply. Others read it as bonnet pins are banned for all (i.e. that 4.2.2 amd 4.2.3 apply to humpies, though the ADR 42/ does not). Your engineer could choose either reading.

Cheers,

Wayne ,is the catch spike getting stuck ,or is the cable tight . The problem is that by the time you get the spike striking the catch in the correct place and adjusted to the correct height you have released the catch through the grille with a screwdriver so many times ,you now have R.S.I. [only on FC not possible on FE ].I suspect its because of our mod. on the support panel and now our catch is moved just enough to cause a problem . I should have known this might happen and prepared for it by making a pattern out of cardboard and blu-tac . This would have shown where the striker landed and then we could have adjusted it the same . I'm afraid now its ,mark the striker position with a pencil then screw it out a few turns .Then mark the catch before trying to guess where it should be . I'll give you a call this week . Haydn
