Been doing some searching on this forum and on google.

Found and exact match for the 7/16 screws in  S/S but jeez they are expensive ..

I think i might just drill out all the holes and bring home the big pnuematic nutsert gun from work and put them in for 40cents each plus under $14 for a box of button heads in S/S .

heres the bolts

i have button heads for guard bolts,i only have nutserts 5 mm at work so i drilled out with flats,springs and nuts on the other side,against all my engineering morals.nutserts all the way i reckon.but i still think the button heads look out of place for period correctness

And i wasnt drinking..
 Ill order some now.

They also have 3/8 head ones may be good to hold the tank in.

For my  sedan at the chop shop i am running M8 nutserts and i am using just plain old zinc bolts and im going to put the rebate in the head with an end mill and get everything cad plated again as  i didnt want the whole chrome thing going on. and machine up some nice thick washers with a chamfer on the side?
Dunno might even powder coat everything i was so impressed with oxytech powder coatings finishes on springs ect i thing i might go a flat silver its so flexible and durable.
They powdercoated a piece of 1.5mm alloy and said allright bend it and try and crack it i bent it back on itself hit it everything and still no cracks absaloutley amazing stuff ..

And they now do metalics and candy apple powder coating.. i recomend this for your bonnet springs ect over chrome more durable..

Even if you are careful those horrible standard sheet metal screws (they are not bolts) will stuff up and it will be just when you are doing final assembly.  If you want a standard look (I don't really want to draw attention to a line of stainless steel bolts just the engine) there are alternatives.

I have used 1/4 unc nutserts and then used mud guard bolts from a 1960's Ford.  They are 3/4" long have 1/4 unc thread and incorporate a captive washer and a black coating. In addition the heads have the same raised section as the standard sheet metal screws and you can use a 3/8 AF spanner.  Best thing is you can get them on new on ebay from US restoration places. I bought 80 so I can do a couple of cars.

If that link doesnt work just get onto us ebay and search for fender bolts.  Hundreds will appeart and you can make the choice.  A better than Rare Spares.
