Hi Greg

Very early ute & panel van grilles had painted steel horizontal blades, but I believe they were discontinued and changed so that all models had stainless steel

The lower larger horizontal piece is chromed steel and the vertical pieces are chromed die cast metal

Not often do you see the steel ones in good condition

Yes I think Gary has the answer, whilst FC was doing painted grilles it probably made sense to use the same steel bars and chrome them. Then after the painted grilles were discontinued, the bars were changed to stainless because it would have been cheaper to make.
The chrome steel grilles are rarer than the stainless ones, but no more or less value in my opinion.

That explains why Dad's ute grille has rust behimd the bars.
