I've fitted an electronic dissy from a VH Commonbore to my red motor, and have been told that I need to feed it 12+ volts and therefore shouldn't use the original +ve wire to the coil as it will supply only 7 to 10 volts when running. But I've tested the voltage at the coil end of this original wire with the engine running (idle only; maybe the voltage will drop at higher revs?  Huh) and found that it still has 12+ volts...  Huh

1) Should I use this original wire to the new set-up or will it possibly damage the electronic coil/module/dissy?  OR

2) Should I feed it via a relay, and if so, what is the maximum amperage that the electronic dissy would draw? (this info required to select a suitable relay and in-line fuse)

All advice gratefully accepted...

Thanks

jack

G'day Jack,
I've fitted dozens of electronic dizzys to FEs to EKs that have had red motors fitted  as FEs and FCs have 12volts power to the coil and do not have a resistor in the wiring.

just bypass the resistor wire to your coil
