Ok... couple of weeks ago I had an issue which I assumed was fuel related as i posted at the time. I pulled the fuel pump apart and blew out the carby, started and all was good. Yesterday I drove it to Wauchope about 20K's and back. Went OK ish with a bit of missing at about 55-60 mph. Nothing too serious but felt like when i backed off a bit it missed. When I pulled into the garage it stalled?? So today I put in new plugs/coil/leads/dizzy cap and rotor. set all gaps as per manual. fired it up and it kicked straight away then died. Managed to get it to fire then let it idle for a couple of minutes then took it around the block. Still running a bit rough but running. Got 1/2 of the way home and it died again. Clutch started it and it fired and nearly home and it died again. Will kick over and fire then just die.' feels very similar to the last incident but this time it will kick and die last time it wouldn't kick? Now its sitting on the side of road very close to home. The only thing i didn't do was reset the timing cos i couldn't see a thing and was not really what to do.... but as I said it idled well at the time? thoughts please. NIck

It still seems fuel related to me - pull the top off the carb and see if there is fuel in the bowl when it has stalled. Generally dirt in the carb will give very irregular running - sometimes idling OK and then stalling as soon as you put your foot on the power, other times accelerating for a short time and then misfiring. Even other times it will run OK as long as you have your foot on the power but will stall as soon as you take your foot off the gas. It depends which part of the carby has the dirt in it.

Nick, is there petrol in the bowl when it stalls? this sounds like an issue I had when I finished mine
I had a problem with my Ambulance, for it's maiden run I took it to Forbes and beyond, anyway, on the way back from beyond, it started farting, coughing then stopped, checked everything, waited a while started her up and away we went till the whole process started again.
Had plenty of help from other members on the way home but in the end I had to call the NRMA, luckily I had premium cover and was towed all the way home.
Turns out it was the pick up tube inside the petrol tank, must be full of crap, it was letting a little through, then drying up, coudn't even blow it out, was lucky enough to have another tank at home, changed it over and whala, no more issues!
So maybe try blowing it back through the tank and listen for it?

Thanks Ken and Gary You guys are spot on.... but the issue is with the pin for the actuator in the fuel pump. Last time it was worked loose on the LHS and as a result I could not get a spanner onto the nut to get the fuel punp out. Pushed it back in and also blew out carby etc. This time after I posted I went back and checked the fuel lines again and I wasn't pumping fuel out when I undid the fuel line at the carby.So I went to take off the fuel pump again and the actuator pin had worked itself over the RHS and I couldn't get the spanner onto it again as the pin was in the way. Dave Lakin came over and gave me a hand to try and help trouble shoot.. THANKS DAVE... the forum to the rescue again Took off the fuel pump pushed the pin back in and she fired and Dave drove it home. I followed with the tool truck. Any one got a fuel pump.. non vacuum type! SO how do you fix the issue with the loose pin? Has anyone had this problem in the past??? Thanks again to DAVE KEN and GARY

There meant to have the copper welsch plug looking thingos either side or just put a "roll pin" in it ..

A cylindrical shaped pin made from spring steel that would be pressed in or tapped in to replace the shaft which is loose in your pump - try any bolt shop or maybe Bursons or Repco etc.

you know a roll pin round pin with a slot up it go to expresway spares or any car parts shop should have a kit with all different sizes.

Nick, it could be a better bet to put a fuel pump from a vk c/dore on, I am led to belive these stop this type of problem. Reagrds Jim

We run holden six pumps on our BROBO cold saw so everytime i buy a pump there are a million variations to the pin arrangment.
Just replace it with one of these as they are hardened as well so should fix your problem.
well thats one of our many fixes on the brobo saw.
