Hi
Can anyone tell me if there are any other body numbers on the unitary section of the main cars floor or is it only the number on the of subframe that exists. Could u swap over for different models or does the number correspond to build year etc. Also how do you get gear lever off column without stuffing it. My second strip down under way on second car is harder as I know what I'm in for.

Chassis number is only on the subframe, you can cange them over but you will need a receipt with the new number on it. To remove the gear lever you need to take the rubber cover off and knock out the retaining pin, that will allow you to pull the lever out. Regards Jim

thanks mate. yeah both rego places have no records of the cars which were last registered in the 70's so i dont think it would matter which body i put on which car because thew front guards are the main difference. they are probably too dumb to know what numbers for what year etc.

The simple answer is yes - the chassis number does define the year. FE chassis numbers start with either 6, 7 or 8 depending on year of manufacture. FC's have either 8 or FC, the FC denotes 1959 production. As to whether the RTA cares about the number - unlikely, unless it is on their system already. Ken

They just want the number. I dont think it will matter much, but I think the best subframe is on the fc, but havent got that one off, but I have the fe one already blasted and it is pretty sad, so going the whole hog with that one, k frame strengthening, new box sections etc. Need to work out what holes im gunna fill. have decided to go 350 chev, bugger it, if im going to all this trouble may as well fit an engine that i really want. In this case, 1 is an SA car and 1 victorian. I have managed to put the old rego sticker under a certain light and got the rego number of the fc, its all numbers and no letters. kind of cool. I wonder if i could get personalised number plates with original number on rego which matches some of the old docs I have? Sort of proves it was never re registered with a different owner too, just retired from service as a taxi and wasnt re registered.

All you have to do is check with your rta to see if that plate is in use if not you should be able to claim it. It sure would be neat to have the original plates for the car. Regards Jim
