Steering arms

Hi Guys,

After finally fitting my rack and pinion set up from the VIC source, I have found that the steering arms hit in the rims.... Only an 18" rim will fit on, which isn't quite legal up here in QLD.

Have others come across this problem and are there any suggestions to fix it.
I think I read somewhere about spacing the arms, but not sure whether this is legal either, and would seem to reduce the turning circle even further.

Hi Jason,
You never mentioned what front end set you were using & I may be wrong, but I thought you needed to run Torana steering arms with a rack. They are different in length and angle to HR arms. That could be your problem.

I'm using torana arms spaced out 1/2" on a hr front end with hq stubs and vp commodore rims and there is heaps of room at the tie-rod end.
The shorter arms will give you more direct steering, but a heavier feel. The steering arm stops on the lower wishbone were changed to suit the new set up.
We wont talk about Mr. Ackerman here but he doesn't seem to be a big problem!
Also, shorter steering arms should improve the turning-circle.

I have Hr drum stubs fitted with a brake kit, and modified steering arms that were provided with the front end and rack... Meant to be a straight bolt up fit... Well I suppose it was, just couldn't bolt the wheels on.
So the Torana arms will fit onto the HR stub?
Will have to look for some
