Hi guys

I have owned my FE for 17 years now and along the way have had
many comments on the orginal number plates that start with GTS
followed by the normal 3 numbers.

Many people have commented that these number plates may be
worth some money.

I have never took much notice of this untill recently when I was thinking
of selling the car. Jumped on to some number plate websites and found
similiar plates selling for 3000 - 4000 dollars and nearly fell of the chair.

Does anyone know if this sounds right, could plates really sell for this much?

Do you think GTS fans would really pay a ridiculous amount of money
for a number plate?

If anyone has some thoughts please let me know.

And a question for FE owners would you prefer to buy a FE with these
plates? Thought I might get some more money selling them seperate
but would feel better selling the plates with the FE because to me it just
wouldn't look the same without the old plates.

But maybe I'm just being too sentimental!

Thanks for your thoughts

Andrea,

The value of the number plates will depend entirely on the three digits, for example if the plates that you own are GTS 307, GTS 327 or GTS 350 then these would be a very desirable plate. Even if they are not then someone may still want to pay a reasonable price for the GTS prefix plates

The number plates will not add any more value to your car, unless they are the numbers above, then they could well be worth more than your car.

Presumably you are in Victoria?  Unless the number plates are tranferrable, they aren't worth anything except about $10 each to number plate collectors (as opposed to someone who wants to register them on a vehicle).

Don't get too excited about the $3000 to $4000 asking prices.  I can ask $100 000 for my FE and $3million for my house, but I'll never get it... Wink  Lots of blokes list number plates at stupid prices on ebay and other websites.  The only ones making any money out of this is Ebay- they get the listing fees.

I think you would be better off selling the car registered, with a RWC and that way, the original plates can stay with the car.  After all, not a great number of fifty plus year old cars still driving around with the original rego plates still attached.
