approximate date of manufacture from the chassis, instead of motor?

...i have an FC ute but it has a 'B' prefix on the engine, so i assume it's out of an FB EK, but can i do the same sort of matching of approximate dates with the chassis number?

Chassis numbering can be used to date the early cars up to 1959 since up to 1959 all car's chassis numbers started with the year of manufacture followed by a sequential number. However in 1958 GMH realised that they would have the potential for 2 cars to have the same chassis number - Since 1959 all cars then had the model prefix as the start of the chassis number. I can date all FE and FC vehicles using my database as a comparison to known dated cars.
