Hi Everyone.. need some help with painting .. car has been sandblasted and cannot remember how the exterior paint finished on the edge of the doors .. the painter wants to take the paint around the inside of the door to the edge of the door skin , giving it about 12 on the inside of each door .. I think this is wrong, and I reckon the paint finished at the edge of the outside of the door , if you get what I mean .. can anyone help with some photos of an original paint job for an FC door or doors where the outside and inside meet .. Regards Stephen

I would recommend that you look at some of the cars currently undergoing restoration they have heaps of photo's so should give you a good idea how you want your car to look. different colours have different paint cut off due to interior colour for example a black car with red interior is a little different to my 2 tone green.

Cheers Jim

Thanks Jim .. but have been trawling through the past photos for 3 days, and not enough close ups or the angles wrong or it's all one colour etc etc .. my FC is a 1958 special with granite grey bonnet and sides, with an india ivory flash, roof and boot .. but any FC with any colour in that combination will do .. I would look at a club members car but am about 6 0 Kilometers from the nearest member and ther are no FC where I am .. not necessary photos but need a confirmation that the grey on the doors does not wrap around but finishes on the edge of the door .. all the inside of the doors are ivory, so where the grey is on the centre door pillar, where the back door attaches, does the grey  or bottom colour go all the way around the pillar, and finish inside the door rubber channel Huh or does it just cover the outside of the pillar ?? .. I took lots of photos of my car from all angles, with and without the chrome and stainless  just so the painter would have everything he needed to paint the car .. but as Murphy is alive and well, these are the two questions he has asked, and as per usual, there are no photos of these .. everything else but .. I could just tell him to paint to the edge of the doors and go all around the pillars .. but would like it confirmed that that is how it's done .. because once it's painted it's too late to change it .. SO if anyone has a car with this colour combo, next time you pass it,maybe you could have a look and let me know .. car is to be painted on Friday this week .. Regards Stephen

The grey DOES NOT wrap around - it finishes on the edge as you thought.

Stephen, I have included the photos that I took of my FC when I dismantles the doors to give you an idea where the paint goes. Also note that behind the flash on the rear door that the paint line is halfway between the two clip mounting holes and then joins at the bottom of the flash mounting holes.

I hope that this helps

If you haven't grown up by 50, you don't have to.

does the grey  or bottom colour go all the way around the pillar, and finish inside the door rubber channel  or does it just cover the outside of the pillar ??

It goes to the rubber Stephan, that way you don't see the paint line.
