Seat Belt Fitment

I am fitting seat belts to my FC sedan, does anyone have measurements of where the bolt holes go, I dont have a set of belts or the seats handy to work out where the belts have to go.

The rear has never had seat belts, the front has them in the floor pans about 4" or 100mm wide of the transmission tunnel. The installation that was originally done on the car was very agricultural with the rear of the seat cut with a knife to get the belt buckles through. From others that I have seen they have mounted closer to the transmission tunnel. Which is correct?

I've got a stock front bench with 2 lap-sash belts. The inboard floor mounting bolts go thru each side ofthe base of the trans tunnel so the bolts are lined up about 20 degrees below horizontal; each hole is therefore about 50 or 60 mm off the centreline of the tunnel. If you draw a line between the forward-most ends of the back door opening (scratch plates), then these holes are about 50 mm forward of that line.

Makes perfect sense, that will be the fronts sorted, any suggestions on the placement of the rears

The rear bolts in my sedan, the outers are on the wheel tubs and the two inner mount points are just either side of the tunnel. The upper mounts are on the parcel shelf, but I have seen them fitted to the C pillar.

I am assuming that you run the belts up inbetween the seat and the wheel tubs? I am guessing that you would need to have the mount low down nearly at the floor to ensure that only the belt is visible?

and the two inner mount points are just either side of the tunnel.

I thought that from Jack's description it would make sense to have the rears in basically the same location in relation to the fronts

I assumed that they would go on the parcel shelf, again I am assuming that they would be close to the "C" pillar, given that you have seen some that have mounted them to the "C" Pillar.

The other thing that I need to know is there a standard seat belt bolt, if so what is the pitch and diameter of the thread?

Bolt size is 7/16" UNF  they are a special bolt grade 5 or 8  with a big head 13/16"  and a shank for the belt end to fit that allows it to swivel ....If you bought new seat belts they would have been supplied ......FC427......

Thanks FC 427. I am trying to get the bracket location sorted so that I can measure the seat belt length. I plan on ordering the belts from Hemco this week, I am assuming (and will confirm) that the bolts would have been supplied and intend to have the mounting plates all fitted by the time that the belts arrive.

Back off to the garage.....

Hemco can supply the plates  as well  Keith and from memory they have to be 65square  centermeters  minim with  10mm radiused corners so they won't tear through the floor in an accident  like a square edge would  ......FC427....

Do you want to drop around at my place and look at the belts in my car?  I have lap/sashes in front and rear, but no centre passenger belts in either front or rear.  Give me a call if you like.  I'll PM the number to you.
