Some time ago I pulled the original manifold off of the grey so I could clean it up and paint it etc.  In it's place I put another old one on and blocked off the holes with cardboard.  This stayed on until I put the motor, or is it engine, back in the car.

My query is this.  The new gaskets have fibre on on side and metal on the other.  Which side goes toward the block.  My guess is the fibre to the block.  I did not take any notice when I pulled the originals off.

Hi Keith,

I have always fitted them fibre side to the block, shiny side to the manifold.
