Here's a sample of a pattern that I can get hoodlining material done in. It is different to the cream crackle that some others have used in their builds/restos (Glen's V8 Wagon, Mrs StreetNeat's FC Sedan). I am after opinions if it would be worth my while to ship this over from the States and if it would sell, the black is for demonstration purposes and I can get the material in pretty much any colour. The top is a piece of original material sprayed black for comparison, the pieces of material were then scanned together so that the size of the patterning is relative.

Any colour I ask for, this would be a custom made roll of vinyl, colour matched to the samples I send.

What's the process, is it a die wheel pressing or is it a roller with hot, soft material pressed before it cools?
Was just thinking if it's a die could you replicate the old style exactly and you'd be on a winner....

I am not sure what the process is exactly, but with only 10% of the views on this thread converting to votes and the votes themselves aren't instilling much confidence. I don't think I will be taking up this challenge.

This is the "cream crackle" mentioned above that gives the same effect as the original material, kind of like a shimmer. When you get close you can see the difference though. As others have stated, close but not enough to satisfy restorers so it would be a risk to enter into. Pricing could be guesstimated between $40 and $60 per metre, but without knowing what it will cost to land the material in Australia I can't say for sure. The cream crackle is $60-70 per metre.

Very tricky one, hood lining. I believe it has to be closer to original than current samples. As was commented on by Paul, what is the process, rollers? etc. My hunch is that the hood lining was rolled in Australia by someone like 'Nylex' and over the years the tools have been chucked. However, if one could find out how the folks in the US do it now, and it is indeed a couple of rollers, it shouldn't be that hard to make new rollers with CAD / CAM. Whether it stacks up financially, well that is another thing all together. If the pattern is right, then I'm sure the US folks could easily roll any of the 7-9 hood colours that existed for FE-FC, Australian Chev, Vauxhall etc. Geoff_K

The saga continues Anyway the poll is telling me that in-stock sample won't cut it, so what I need now is to send a large sample over to the US to see if they can replicate it. If anyone happens to have 1 yard (approx 1 metre) of headlining material lying around I'd like to hear from you. I will also be after smaller samples of each colour that the hoodlining was available in, preferably an edge section that has been protected from the sun and carries the original colour. PM or call me on 0408 891 843

That's be great if you can send me a piece that has not been exposed to the sun ie under the screen rubber or inside seam of the sunvisors. If so PM me and I'll send my postal address.

Hi Stinky, From my research there were 11 hood lining fabric colours, with Part Nš's. Of those, 7 trim colours were paired with the Majority of Trim Codes, the other 4 were quite Limited. I have ID Tag details from cars with all Hood Lining Fabrics colours, so we know all 11 colours were run/built. With respect to the colours, they are are quite different, yet quite similiar, I have samples of about half of the colours, although some are small and damaged. Send me a PM if you won't more detail.
