Hi everyone  I am just about to get my engine out and get the engine bay ready for paint. My FE is black so as I understand it the firewall is the same colour as the car? But what about the inner guards are they gloss black or GMH black? Any help much appreciated THANKS DAVE

Dave it depends when and where your car was assembled.

AFAIK early Melbourne cars have body coloured firewalls and black skirts, as do all Brisbane assembled cars. Early Sydney cars however, have all body coloured engine bays.

Where the skirts are black, they are the GMH black - or what looks like it. Its not very durable and doesn't last as well as the body colour on the firewall.

Ken McLean will be able to provide the definitive answer.

Hope this helps

Dave, you need to supply body plate and chassis number details of your car for me to give correct colours. FE changed from plant to plant and year to year

Hi Ken     ID TAG     FE-225-11962-A      CHASSIS     6-4227-B       TRIM      4-582     PAINT    53-6258    The paint is well worn but my guess would be that the firewall was gloss black and the rest GMH black but I'm sure you will know      THANKS Ken & John   DAVE

Your car is right at the end of 1956 production (late Dec manufacture) - as John suggests it should have gloss black firewall and semi black skirts
