FC P/van numbers

 ???Excuse my ignorance but where exactly do you find the Chassis Number? My Van is in storage and a little difficult to get to so I don't want to shift things around too much looking for it. BTW the reason I'm asking is I came across the serial numbers the other day I had written down and 'filed' but I didn't know then there was a seperate Chassis No. For your records

If it's an FE the stamped numbers are really small, like a quarter-inch high. They'll be between the regulator and the battery, probably along the upper fold in the metal of the inner skirt. They can really take some finding.

FC ones on the other hand are about 3/4" tall, on the flat (horizontal) area of the driver's side skirt, directly opposite the regulator.

Trim: 194-653
Paint: 256-2051 (Skyline Blue outside and Peasant Blue inside)
Chassis: FC61984M (Melbourne assembled 60,984th FC in 1969)
I now know that the Engine was replaced @ 76,670 miles (cooked her towing huge load of wood!) with another grey from an EK. However the owner chose to use the Oil Bath Air Cleaner from the original Motor (How lucky was that).
My guess then she's a fairly late build and a real "Belmont" trades vehicle. I have since fitted and Air Chief Radio and a Lucas Heater so now she's a "Kingswood"

Regular Production Option 333 was a glazed tailgate. The standard panel-van had an all-steel upper tailgate, i.e. no glass in it at all. I don't know whether it was unpopular, or all the vans without a back window got written off in accidents , but original panel vans without this option are very very rare. There's been a lot written on this topic over the years - do a search for 333 or "blind van" and see what you come up with.

I had never given much credence to researching my Van's history until joining this site, but I am starting to realise that I own a unique and special part of Australian automotive history and should give it more of the respect it deserves. All who have got it up and running should be congratulated.
So! Thank you!
On the down side however, I pretty sure my Van has had it's arse end replaced with that of a Wagon (Rust I guess). It's a different Blue and has a "Station Sedan" chrome badge across it. The Glassed top section however still seems to be the original and even all the locks to hold it up still work! The key to the 'spare tyre' dormitory still works too and is rust free!!! I guess that's all good!

It could have had a rear quarter done, but unlikely the whole bum. Wagons don't have the bumperettes and spare tyre door, they have a false floor with the spare wheel well completely internal, just like a modern Commodore wagon.

Sorry - thought you were referring to the die-cast on the rear quarters - that actually says "Station Sedan" - not the tail-gate badge.

Van and wagon tailgates are identical apart than the badge, stainless and interior trim, so completely interchangeable.

Doesn't a van tailgate just say 'HOLDEN' and the station wagon says 'STATION SEDAN', that's how I remember them anyway!!

Tailgate badge for ute, van and wagon are all the same

part number is 7410357

The wagon and van tailgates are also identical - p/no is 7410702
