Nev's engine rebuild is stalled because the engine guy can't get the oil slinger that fits over the timing case seal and "plates with pins on them"  Huh that fit in the rocker gear.

I'm neither a mechanic or engineer so I don't know what the latter is. Can anyone advise where I might obtain these parts?

I'm not aware of the rocker arm plates being available as a spare part. You may need to obtain these second hand.  They sit on top of the rocker shaft posts - but not all engines have them. Will have a look to see if I have some.

I have a pair of the plates with pins, they only go on the centre post of each bank of rockers on grey engines after FE engine number L426903.  The part number is 7412818.

I think I have a slinger as well - if I understand correctly it is the round piece of metal which slides over the crank shaft before the timing cover is installed.

I want $25 for the plates as I am basically breaking up a set of rocker gear to supply the parts.

John,
It may not now be deemed a problem, but when Holden changed the rocker gear and added the slinger, they also changed the front engine plate (the one that carries the engine mount).
All the detail is in the shop manual, including the position of the drainage holes, that were lowered to let the oil drain back better and reduce the work load on the slinger and seal.
However, having said all that (and done all that, if the surface on the Harmonic Balancer is not 'perfect') the front seal may well still leak.
