Ok Painters.
I'm wondering if Clear OVer BAse paint on a motor would work.. ie stay on.
the clear im sure is OK, the base I'm not so sure.
does anybody know for sure?
Ive got some nice gunmetal GREY I'd like to squirt onto the motor.
Cheers
Ed

Hey Alf,
the car is having some maintenance work and tidying up done.
just rebuilt the brakes, debating the fitup of rear calipers now. putting in fresh motor (bottom end) and trans (TH700R4), zinc plating nuts, bolts, brackets and stuff. basically finishing all the stuff which i rushed through to get it to the Nats. car just got 12 months rego so i've got a little bit of time.
maybe.. just maybe.. the bumpers may get chromed...
Cheers
Ed

Still haven't seen it in Cairns!!! with good reason.... Based on current oil and fuel consumption figures its cheaper for me to fly. Now I hear some owners of GENIII motors complain their motor uses 1L of oil over 10,000kms.. whoopy do… I’d be impressed. How does 1L every 200kms sound??.. now based on current consumption figures… my 12500kms has used approx 62.5Litres of oil.. which equates to 625,000kms of oil in a new GENIII. Also based on fuel consumption figures of 20L/100km, it has gone through roughly 2500 litres of the PULP. a fresh motor should reduce this to oil figure to say.. 2 litres?? and a new trans should reduce the fuel consumption hopefully. so the trip to Cairns is on the cards. Cheers Ed

funny thing is there is no blue smoke
no major leaks... it just escapes.
if i run my finger down the rear glass after a drive there is alot of soot and black particulates.
you can smell the blow by under acceleration.
it runs well and still feels strong, strong enough to bust the rear gearbox mount doing burnouts the other weekend.
just has a bad drinking habit. just before the Nats, i replaced the rings on No1. I noticed the compression rings were fine, the oil rings just wore out. at 60 thou out, it's going to retire now. it's had a good life, and has served me well.
Cheers

Ed Years ago when I was a young fella I drove a grey motored EK wagon from Brisbane to Adelaide and back. The thing I remember most about the car was the lack of oil consumption. Less than half a litre for the whole trip. It was a fresh rebuild but mostly stock with a couple of thousand miles on the clock after the rebuild. Brad.
