My engine stand is making me nervous

Hi,

I just bought an engine stand and set it up and put a 186 on it that will be rebuilt.

I attached the engine to the stand with four bolts.  I know this is normal practice, but it seems a lot of weight to have holding on by the thread of a few 7/16th bolts.

Should I be worried?  All the stands I looked at worked in the same way.

be worried if you start seeing thread appear between the stand and block


i had my motor on a stand and afer using it, the legs and everything are buckled from the weight etc.

this makes you feel more confident right??

4x 7/16 bolts screwed into the block 10 mm is good for well over one metric tonn.

Ps if the engine stand starts sharpening knifes and giving you the evil eye then                 be nervous .

   G'day Dave, its not uncommon for the rear cylinders to distort if a heavy engine  is stored on an engine stand for lengthy periods.
  Currently my 5 litre is sitting on a stand and I wedged a hefty lump of timber between the front of the sump and the stand to support the overhanging weight, I know it makes feel a bit better.
