I have two NOS Regulators part no 74209693

One has a  Blue cover and one has a black

The stickers are different...the black one has 4 arrows extra on it . On the bottom left of the sticker the black on has VDT-UBE 322/22 x (7.59)  while the blue one has VDT-UBE322/22 x (5.59)

I have been told by a retired auto elecrition that the black was for the utes and the blue for the sedans

My ute has a black one on it

Anyone know why there is two different colours or what the difference is with the numbers

Just a wild guess, maybe the Reg on a Ute had a different rating due to stop start driving being a work horse, then again the Sedan would be used as a shopping so same driving conditions.
I know that Utes that where used as a Milko vehicle had a different size generator pulley to keep the charge rate up due to low rev's and short driving distances.

P/N 7409693 is indeed a BOSCH Regulator.  I've seen them both with blue and black covers but am not sure if there is a difference.  I'm doubtful about the 'commercial variant' theory though, at least as standard equipment.

There was a "heavy-duty generator" accessory package, available for both 6V and 12V systems which includes a different regulator, but it has different part numbers: 7406357 for the 12V regulator and 7406604 for the cover.

That accessory might have been what the milkos had fitted.  They were heavily promoted in Accelerator for business/commercial customers: private taxis and the like particularly.

I'm pretty sure one supersedes the other. The last part of the code is the date of manufacture. One is May '59 the other is July '59
