Running in new cam

Hello,

When running in  a new cam (with new timing gear and lifters), does running in oil need to be used?

I assume running in oil is mostly to do with new rings/blow by etc.

Any hints appreciated.

Also if working in a confined garage, would it be wise to run a large industrial fan blowing air through the radiator to keep the cooling system up to scratch while at fast idle for 20 mins?

HI Dave.
Personally I don't really think running in oil is really necessary.I've only ever used normal oils when running in engines.Some say to steer away from friction modified oils when running in.
If you have a large industrial fan it isn't going to hurt anything and will help keep the heat down and will help to blow away the smells and fumes you get from a newly painted/repaired motor.The stink from the fumes can give a good headache!
Keep the engine up around the 2000 rpm mark.
