Can anyone help out with the wiring for a HR column?
Particulary the white, pink and dark blue wires?
I thought the white and pink would correspond to the LHS indicators, but when connected they remain active when the indicators are off.
Either my wiring is off or there is a problem with the indicator mechanism.

looking at my factory HR manual it gets a little confusing as Dark blue comes out of turn signal switch goes to RH front indicators but actually goes to left hand dash indicator (green turn signal)and L/Blue goes to lh front indicators and rh turn signal (green turn signal  on dash)very hard to read as wiring diagrams are blurry.pink looks like it goes to LH rear indicator

stinky, i ran into a similar problem when re-wiring mine with the airide harness and what turned out to be a indicator switch from an EH. i cant remember exactly but i actually had 4 pink wires coming from the indicator switch itself. i ended up just running a test light on the contacts and trying each circut. as i said i cant exactly remember but i am pretty sure it was only 1 of the contacts on each position L and R ( 6 in all??) if you can wait i will try and have a look later in the week for you.
i didnt use the hazard wiring supplied as it was designed for use with a hazard switch already incorporated into the indicator switch. :-/
make any sense??

Hey Stinky

Try this-

Pink - Left rear
White - reverse switch - ie +12v will light up both rear indicators (non flashing) connect to micro switch on floor shifter if there is one - other side of micro to accessories.
Brown - Right rear
Light blue - front left & right dash
Dark blue - front right & left dash - both earth leads from the dash lights go to the P of the flasher can (not earthed)
Yellow - L of the flasher can
and finnaly run a dark blue (for conventions sake  Wink) from the B of the flasher can to the indicator fuse.

Hi Guys.

What Andrew has posted is basically spot-on, with 2 minor additions/corrections.

I make the 'brown' wire actually a purple, it might look brown in some books.

Also the white wire could be wired to the brake light switch, instead of the reverse switch if you wanted to retain flashing red brake lights as rear blinkers if the car is an FE or FC.

Here is the wiring and what I think/found it does

There are seven wires

First Group (Wires joined together like speaker wires)
Dark Blue  - RHS
Yellow       - LHS
Light Blue - LHS

Second Group
Pink           - ?
White        - ?
Purple       - Flasher Power

The first and second groups are wired into the indicator mechanism. The column is a "blank" with no shifter on board, not sure if it was always this way though.
The last wire is the Black for the Horn.

If it helps any, it is an Airide kit like the "Painless" kits.
I want to hook up the following wires

RHS Front and Dash
LHS Front and Dash
RHS Rear
LHS Rear
Flasher Power

Not fussed about authenticity, it's a modified car. I have wired the rear amber indicators for the reverse lights, the kit provides a backup power and lead to wire into a switch.

Would it be a problem to wire the front and rear indicators to the same column wire? eg the Dark and Light Blue wires?

My problem is just the Pink and White wires are "hot" and flashing when the LHS indicator is on and in neutral.

Hi Stinky.

If you wire the front & rear indicators together you lose the reverse light function.

Follow Andrews listing & mine.

Is you want to run a 2 pin blinker can run the dash lights in parallel to the front blinkers.

So the list would then be

1st group-
Dark Blue - RH Front & dash
Yellow - From blinker can
Light Blue - LH Front & dash


2nd group-
Pink - LH Rear
White - From reverse light switch
Purple - RH Rear

Yes & black is the horn contact
(& grey is for the auto trans indicator if it's an auto)

12v ignition switched power is supplied directly to the blinker can

hi stinky, thinking back i ran into exactly the same dilema as your going through, just couldnt remember how i fixed it, it was a while ago.
i used the same airide harness as you and what dr terry says is right

i got around this problem by finding a dual circut globe holder out of i think a HT,K,G  just had a look through the wreckers bin and used this for my rear blinkers 1 wire services the blinkers the other (green wire) is used for the reverse lights. ( front and rear blinkers are wired up together)
works like a treat now, nice bright reverse lights and blinkers that flash.

If you still have power to the pink when the switch is off then the switch is stuffed - you might need a trip to the wrecker or  wire the front and back together using the blue wires.

Thanks Andrew, I'll be looking at the switch tonight, I bought the entire column from someone else and no guarantee was given about the switch/wiring.

Edit - 9:30PM
The switch was OK, my wiring wasn't.
Andrew/Dr Terry were on the money
Dean, yes it looks like I need to go to dual filament globes for the indicators.

how is your column bolted to the y frame as the one i took out of my white fe only had 2 bolt holes line up out of three.

Just had a quick look, I can only see 2 bolt holes on the "supposed" HR column, so it's bolted up by these.

There are only 2 bolts for a HR column, the 3rd hole which was used for the FC column is left empty
