Hi,my mates been nagging me all week to find out what his FE van numbers mean,here they are-
FE-2104-295-A
trim-156-683
paint-256-2481,can someone please decipher them ?

Nicko, Comet blue interior and Elk blue paint.  Paint no is actually 256-7481.

Can you find out the chassis number as well?
I can give you a better idea of build date.

That looks like the ID number again.  The chassis number will be above the regulator on the inner guard, stamped in numbers 1/4" tall.  It should look like this:

7 - xxxx - L

where x is a numeric digit and L is a letter.

My guess is that the last letter should be "A" as it is fairly well in sequence with Adelaide production but not in sequence with Melbourne production if the letter was an "M"

This would place it about November/December 1957 production

the last digit is 100%not A or M its a 1 or an I

Nicko, If it is stamped 1, then it is an error by the production line guy, as the last letter on the chassis number designates where the vehicle was assembled.  The only options for this letter are;
A - Adelaide
M - Melbourne
S - Sydney
P - Perth
or
B - Brisbane

i double checked and its an I or a ! very strange,its on drivers side inner guard ledge,is there another spot that has numbers on?
