David,
I once asked Zulu the same question. His reply: very carefully. I still haven't worked up the guts to do the job. There is a tool to undo it around the edges, more or less a rod with a hook on the end. Once the edges are off, it should be a simple matter of undoing the retaining bows. The material hoops that the bows go through tend to be very easy to tear on the original linings. Hope this helps, good luck.
Colin.

The hood lining is held up by:
The front & rear screens on a sedan
The front screen only on the wagon
The side retaining metal strip
The headlining retaining bows
Remove the glass
Remove the windlacing by carefully opening the crevice that retains it and the headlining, between the  metal strip, which is welded to the body.
To open or prise the strip away from the body try a variety of tools, a flat blade screwdriver, a blunt chisel, or a thin brick bolster, it is only a thin metal, so go easy & you don't want to damage the lining.
This strip has like an upside down saw blade runnng around it, the headling has been folded and pushed up into the crevice with the windlacing & then gently tapped closed with a mallet.
So after you have opened the crevice the windlacing should come out easily.
The headlining will be caught on the saw teeth, to remove it you will need to push it up gently to unhook it off the teeth. You could try a paddle pop stick or a smooth blunt flat edge screw driver & work slowly.
The lining when removed from the edges will be hanging from the roof on rod metal hood bows from side to side, they simply fit into holes on each side, have someone help as you are undoing these as the weight may pull on the fabric around the bows & tear.
Mark or number the bows from front to back as they are different sizes.
The loop of fabric that holds the bows in place may be torn & require replacing.
Good Luck, Cheers, Gary
