Can someone tell me if the ports of early grey heads were 7 ports 3 in 4 out doesn't sound right to me but unsure Thanx Steve

All original grey heads are the same in this regard, 7-port just as you described.

Not just early but every single factory grey head is 7 port, 3 in 4 out.

Other heads built for the grey ( not factory ):
Waggot twin cam:  12 port
Repco Crossflow: 12 port ( inlets a mostly divided )
Foster twin cam:  12port
Dunston rotary vale: 12 port
