Okay after the interest in the first one, here's another challenge Maybe not as difficult as the first, but still a lot of people will have trouble with it. So - it does not have a part number, it is part of a larger assembly. What is it? and more importantly, what is special about it that makes it different?   Ken |

Has to be lights switch knob, part of the light switch assembly and the only ring you can unscrew off without a tool ?

Given that we eliminated the choke and the wiper, it had to be the light switch. What model / year does it come off and why is it different to the headlight switch most people will have on their car?

Found an FC switch in the shed and the ring does not unscrew and doesn't feel as heavy. Hope this means that my original one is original. Cheers Stewy  |

I think the ring may be used to mount another switch, such as a two speed.

I will keep out of this one . I use these all the time when I convert a wiper motor to 2 speed .You can fit them to the after market knob if you are handy with a grinder.Haydn

Is it from an early FE...probably 56 ish...I remember reading the early ones were a heavier cast type ring which screwed onto the black plastic and later ( not sure when ) types were of the lighter "pressed type which did not screw off but were pressed onto the black plastic.....not sure

I'll give the vote to both Stewy and Spyro. It is a headlight switch off early FE which has a die cast screw on top which was replaced in production some time in 1957 with the pressed top type button. I presume it would be a cost saving similar to the wiper switch knob being replaced with the pressed top as well. These are a little harder to find than the FE wiper knob so I presume these were an earlier change.   Ken |

Thanks for the challenge Ken, my wagon is November 57 and has the removable surround. Being an Adelaide car they might have had more stock of the early type of switch.? Cheers Stewy |

Possible, or your switch was replaced, which would not be uncommon as the rheostat for the dash light dimming was frequently broken.
I have not seen any production documentation on a change.
