This may be a stupid question but what the heck. What is the technical name for the channel or cross member thingy at the front of the underbody just behild where the subframe bolts on, the one that goes across to gearbox mounts. It there a way of putting a chassis pic with all the bits labelled for people who havent worked much on holdens before as some makes use different language.

I've always called it the underfloor crossmember - I don't know whether it has a name originally

Im going to have to either fabricate one with a mate or buy one, but I have seen on here that a lot of people are not happy with purchased ones. ha ha, I could say something about it being the 'no 1 body member' but I won't The inner and outer seals look to be part of the load bearing structure. They dont look that strong under there in standard form to tell u the truth compared to a lot of other makes I have seen, but most cars ive worked on are utes or 70's cars (too scared to say what make).

Hey Deano, have a look and my thread "crossmember fabrication" or can some one put up the active link to this thread....This litterally only took a few hours and is a lot stronger than original.I also made the new extensions of this crossmember which can be seen in "it has begun but will it continue?".I have more photos if you need.Or conact Fatboy as apparently he might have some that he has removed from cars (only found out after I made mine ).Cheers,Jamie.

That is really cool. Im no fabricator but Im not a complete idiot, probably somewhere in between . But I reckon I could do this stuff, what thinckness sheeting did u use for all this and also were u going to use the same method of spotting them on or use just a normal weld to put it in.

Yeah Deano I think I used 1.6mm and then I drilled holes in the sections that attach to the body and spot welded through these holes.Cheers,Jamie.
