I have heard a rumor that flathead pistons will fit a grey motor. Apparently they are lighter.

Anyone heard if this is true or not?

Thanks,

The Ford Flathead pistons, from a "Ford" (85 to 90 hp depending on model) ( 3 and 1/16 bore) will not fit, as they have a dome top. Given the length of the skirts and the fact that they are a 4 ring piston, I cannot see how they could be lighter.

I had a motor bored to 3 3/16th in the early 60s and I think the pistons were from the Ford Mercury.
The motor is in my shed I maybe could see if it has any id marking on the pistons. The motor still has bridge supports on 2nd and 3rd caps.

Thanks Wayne, Keith & Mal,

I had no idea but like on the thread Wayne pointed me to it would be good to have a list of comparable engine bits.
