Hi guys, Just wondering where the best place to source a chasis kit for a ute would be in Victoria. And an estimate on cost. Cheers

Depends on your skills and garage equipment. Knowing what I know now, I'll be making my next chassis kit myself. If you want something off the shelf, give the Castlemaine Rod Shop a call, I think my kit was around $400. Mostly bolt-on and 4 welds, shocking instructions though, you'll need to see one fitted or get pics to do one properly the first time.

RET, I understand that, but ever since Rod sold the bussiness, prices have gone up, i have a 2002 pricelist from CRS and chassis kit for v8 into fe fc is priced at $325. That was a reasonable price, but now the price is just rediculous.
back onto topic, Michael seeings we live quite close you can come and measure up our sedan chassis if you wish, either that or the option i pm'd you about..

The prices would have gone up if Rod was still there, simple economics, prices rises for steel (also the reason farmers are clearing their paddocks of old cars) and labour. I don't think Rod had a magic steel tree and a welding fairy?
Maybe a bit of thought and or research before the continous frivolous comments please.

yeah, steel is getting dear but could it be $400 dearer, i beleive there supercharger kit is now over the $2000, its pretty basic but it does come with a $250 supercharger. from what i have heard they suck to deal with so I thought i would see just how crap they were and made a few email enquiries and yep, they were crap to deal with. If you can come across a second handy its good, if you buy something from someone who is crap to deal with and something is wrong with it you could end up with nothing but a pile of useless crap.

a little of topic but in the construction industry it seem steel goes up 10% about every six months, its hard to keep up with I'll be making my own soon to fit all VT suspension and stearing + V8. I'll take some pics. PS Lional West (Rods right hand man) has gone out on his own now.

Rods racks sells a chassis strengthening kit for $200.00 on his current price list and when I rang him I didn't get the truckload of ums and ahs that you receive elsewhere and as for the R&D costs to develop a kit I highly doubt it would have went over the price of a BBQ and a slab at CRS as they had been developing much more complicated gear at good prices when Rod owned the place and even taking into account steel price rises and general rent, wages etc they have been kinda pricing themselves out of the market on some products and hopefully they will start to compete with others to bring their prices down and keep them that way.

This is the link I use to the Rod's Racks site http://www.rodsracks.com.au/ I have rang him a couple of times and found him very helpful. It's just a pity he's so far away, would love to call in for a chat. Hope this helps, Cheers, Jack
