Does anyone have the paint code (not the trim code) for Fall red?I'm trying to get someone to match the paint but no one uses acrylic anymore.  |

I've never seen it listed anywhere.
I'm assuming you want to paint the seat surrounds. I wouldn't use acrylic for this application - 2 pack or even colour matched bumper paint would be better.

No, actually I want to paint the interior parts which are red as in all the door jambs and across the tops and bottoms of the doors.I assume this red is also called Fall red?Trim code is 4-846 which is Single tone black exterior (4) and Fall red and black interior (846).Paint colour is 253-6258 which is Hi Gloss Black Duco Lacquer. I'm not really clued up on the paint codes as you can probably see.Any help appreciated.Cheers,Jamie.

Jamie,
The name indicates it is a US colour, I have found just about every FE/FC colour but I can't find Fall Red in any of the various GM marques for 1953- 57. I think the best idea would be to have your favourite painter match it.

Thanks John.None of the local panelbeaters have Acrylic anymore and will only be able to order it in if I have a paint code.The paint supplier that I bought all my paints and primers from in Adelaide will match it but I have to leave a sample with them (Front door) for a couple days and I'm just a bit concerned about this as I have already got it nice and straight.I will probably have to.The other alternative is that I get a local to match it in 2 pack as I think 2 pack will go over just about any other paint and primer without reaction.Can someone confirm this?Jamie.

Jamie,
You should be able to get acrylic. I just bought some yesterday made up in Elk and Teal Blue. The brand I'm using is "Protec" and is manufactured in South Australia.
Chances are your local panel shop wont have it, but your local paint supplier should be able to get it. It really is only for the DIY market now.
You can put acrylic over 2K primer, but not vice versa.

Thanks for the info guys.Ed,all of the thinners,primers,fillers and top coats I'm using are Protec.Have been using their stuff for years but unfortunately I have to go to Adelaide to get it.John,Everything I have used so far is set up for acrylic and although 2pack has many merits,acrylic is far easier to use for a novice like myself because if I stuff it up,I just have to rub it back and go again with little to no wastage.2 pack has a short life span and once mixed,you have to use it or lose it so to speak.I have worked with both.2 pack primers especially Hi fill are great due to them being so thick and tough but I am no pro when it comes to mixing them and dealing with temperature variations versus consistency.Acrylic is just easier for me but I appreciate the opinions either way.Cheers,Jamie.

Jamie,
that's ironic isn't it.. made in SA but you need to travel to get it. I go 5 mins away and pick it up...
I did my first full 2k job recently after having used it to spray lots of parts and panels etc.
It is easy to use and mix especially with a mixing container which has all the ratios marked.
I did need to change the fluid tip on the gun to a smaller size tho, to get the correct atomisation, but everything else was very similar.
The biggest "problem" I had with it was the mess... 2K sticks to everything, so you need to cover up everything you don't want painted.
Lastly, I'm no spraypainter either, but I fixed some imperfections in the usual way by carefully rubbing back with 1000, 1500, then 2000 grade, and buffing with a foam pad and working from abrasive to a very fine swirl remover...
This week working with acrylic.. and it is really easy, not as messy and not as toxic.
