I have finally started on the FC wagon and need some help with the date of the old girl.

The body No is FC 229-5388M which I think stands for special wagon the 5,388th of the Melbourne factory line.

Trim 254-857 Riff Red & Black

Paint 253-7773 Du-co Ascot grey over Wangarra grey

Top 253-773 (Ascot grey)
Insert 253/5300 (Wangarra grey)

I think she is a mid 1959 model but the original engine is missing so I cant date it exactly. Can anyone help with modern paint No,s for the above colours and any other way of dating the wagon more exactly so I can try and get a original engine for her.

Thanks Mark-B in Tassie

Actually Mark, it would be amongst the very last FC models produced, Nov or more likely Dec 1959 I would estimate.

PPG Technical Services department can almost certainly help you with modern equivalents of those colours. (I'm tempted - very tempted - to say dark primer and light primer, but that wouldn't be very charitable Wink)

Ring Dulux-PPG customer service, tell them the year, the paint name and code and they'll be able to find it and suggest two-pack or acrylic alternatives:

Hope that helps,

Hi Mark, not sure if this will help you or not but I rang Vic Roads here in Melbourne to see if I could get any information on my FC Sedan. Mine still has original plates, which made it a bit easier, and I gave them ID numbers etc. They sent back list of past owner history  (post codes only), original engine number when first registered and date of first reg. It would be a help if you knew the original reg number or state it was first registered in and contact them.
Cost me $14.50 for the search. Good luck, dnb
