I have just finished restoration of the bracket holding down the battery.  It has a small bracket in the middle of it.  Was this bracket designed to hold the flat braided earth strap away from the fan etc?  My car has the insulated earth wire which I think was a later mod near the run of the FC.

There was a discussion just recently about this. The strap is fed through the bracket to aid chassis earth connections. When the braided lead was replaced with the insulated one, a wire was added that runs from the generator to the body shell - This wire is missing on most cars with insulated leads
