Mikey,

The solution is regular maintenance, ensuring that there is insifficient buildup of carbon and foreign material to allow the blockage of a filter.

Once the filter becomes blocked either way the oil pressure/ flow is on a one way trip to just about zero. As every one in the know knows at high revs this can be catastrophic in seconds.

Unfortunately there are enough cars out there that suffer from a chronic lack of maintenance for this to be an issue.
