I took my car in for an inspection to get a roadworthy so I can get the rego transferred.  I was told that it won't pass because of the mag wheels with spacers that are fitted.
My questions are:
Does this sound correct (I am in Qld)?
The car has a standard 59 fc front end.  What combination of rims & tyres would be ok to fit without needing spacers as apparently they aren't legal?
Does anyone have a set of rims (with or without tyres) for sale that I could fit to pass roadworthy?
I'm not that confident that the guy who did the inspection has much of a clue because he reported that the wipers don't work.  I decided to try them myself and my first instinct was to pull the wiper knob out to operate them but quickly found out you turn the knob to operate the wipers.  By the way my wipers operate via an electric motor not the vacuum.  I have tried them numerous times & can't get them to fail.  I reckon the bloke has tried to pull the knob & got nothing so therefore figured out the wipers don't work.  Doen't exactly inspire me with confidence that a lot of the other defects he found are actually defects.  Might get a 2nd opinion I think.

Hi, It is illegal in Qld to have wheel spacers on, and it isn't very safe anyway.  You would need standard rims at least, as there were not many mags to suit these front ends, been there.  The drums have lugs on, which the rims fit over, and when using other rims/mags they pull the drum in uneven causing problems.  I would think that the spacers would do similar, or maybe they are modified to suit the lugs??

It is possible that he just didn't know how to turn the wipers on, many mechanics these days don't know alot about the older cars and find defects where there aren't, usually this happens with indicators.

Not sure about QLD

But I've been told if the spacers are fixed (that is bolted somehow) to either the wheel or the hub that they are OK.  This is certainly the case for CAMS regulations for race cars.
