Tried to fit my new w/shield (Auto Shades sourced) and found that the top of the unit clashes with the little metal water deflector attached to the top of the quarter vent window frame. What is the better fix, cut a slot in the perspex shield, or the metal deflector?

Cut the plastic. Even some brands of genuine weathershields had a small notch cut in them

Just to add to Ken's it is always a good idea to drill a small hole and cut your notch to the hole will minimise the chance of a fracture  .....FC427.........

When drilling perspex etc best use a blunt drill bit as sharp ones tend to fracture.
cheers

Used an angle grinder with a masonry disc- just like a hot knife through the proverbial condiment.... Cheesy
